YEAR 3 OC FOUNDATION COURSE
What is the OC Foundation Course?
The OC Foundation Course provides students with an engaging introduction to Opportunity Class (OC) test preparation. This structured program familiarizes students with key concepts while strengthening their problem-solving abilities.
Each week, new topics are introduced, and students receive step-by-step guidance through clear explanations, worked examples, and practice exercises. By applying exam-style strategies, students develop a strong understanding of different question types and the most effective techniques for solving them.
The course covers three core subjects:
-
Mathematical Reasoning
-
Reading Comprehension
-
Thinking Skills
New topics are introduced weekly, allowing students to continuously build on their knowledge and refine their critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Throughout the course, students will learn to approach questions strategically by asking:
-
"What is this question really asking?"
-
"What is the quickest and most effective way to solve it?"
The OC Foundation Course goes beyond memorizing formulas or techniques—it focuses on developing logical reasoning and analytical skills. By the end of the program, students will be better equipped to tackle OC questions with confidence and accuracy.
This course is designed for Year 3 students and begins in Term 2, providing a solid foundation for future OC test preparation.
How is the OC Foundation Course different from the OC Testing Course?
The Foundation Course introduces students to OC-style questions with detailed explanations before they attempt them independently. With the teacher's expert guidance, students learn how to approach each question type and develop the strategies needed for success.
In contrast, the OC Testing Course (starting in Year 4) follows a test-first approach. Students complete an exam-style test independently, and afterwards, the teacher reviews each question in detail, providing thorough explanations and insights.
Students who have completed the OC Foundation Course will enter the OC Testing Course in Term 3 with greater confidence, having already developed a strong understanding of key question types and problem-solving techniques.
